Hedonism is the constant pursuit of pleasure. It’s the organization of life and the crafting of experiences around feeling as good as one possibly can. It is the idea that the central goal of all our collective existence is to pursue gratification in all its forms and to avoid pain, using what is available to us in the present, to construct a life that places us in a state of ecstasy, tranquillity, and excitement.
This is Capsule 1.
/ˌtransfəˈmeɪʃn,ˌtrɑːnsfəˈmeɪʃn/
Identity is transient. We morph into something new every day. We are molded by our communities, by our desires, by our goals, and by our experiences. We shrink, we expand, we burst, and suture ourselves back together. We are changed by tears, conversations, and laughter. We are changed by encounters with strangers, dogs running through fields and billowing curtains. We are changed by the smiles of children, exhaust fumes exiting the tailpipes of old cars, and the sound of wind chimes banging against each other on a Sunday afternoon. Transformation is everywhere. The parallel between growth and decay is everywhere.
Buoyed by youth, buoyed by time, and buoyed by a potent need to experience everything that this life has to offer, we find our places within this parallel. And we make our way forward.
